Gold Coast Airport (also known as Coolangatta airport), is located close to the suburb of Tugun, just 10 kilometres east of the Gold Coast CBD. On an average day, it takes about seven minutes to reach the suburb of Coolangatta. There are several transport options available including buses, taxis and chauffeured cars. Travel times: With Hughes you can get from Gold Coast airport to Coolangatta faster

The standard time to get from Gold Coast Airport to Coolangatta is around 7 minutes. During peak hour it takes approximately 8 minutes on the way, to Coolangatta and 6 minutes on the way back. Off-peak hours are even quicker: around 5 minutes going in either direction.

Navigating Gold Coast Airport

Gold Coast Airport is small, but welcomes around 6.5 million people every year, including international travellers. The airlines who fly from this airport are Qantas, Jetstar, Virgin Australia, Air New Zealand, AirAsia X, and Scoot.

Despite its size, Gold Coast Airport has excellent facilities, including plenty of shops, a pharmacy, baggage storage, lockers, foreign exchange, restaurants, and cafes. International travellers can also get Tax & Duty-Free products. Furthermore, there is free Wi-Fi functioning all over the airport, which means you can DM your friends and post your story about your arrival in the Sunshine State.

If you are simply transiting, the Virgin Australia lounge is available for Velocity Platinum, and Gold members. Here you will be able to make the most of a Luke Mangan-designed buffet menu, all-day barista coffee, premium wines, and an excellent selection of beers (after 11:00 am), Wi-Fi, business services, shower facilities, news, and entertainment.

As for parking at the airport, you can choose from four different car parks with over 2000 spaces, including Premium Covered Parking (closest); Short Term Terminal Parking for under 8 hours, and Long-Term Parking which you can book online for discounted prices. If you are being picked up or dropped off, there is 1-hour free parking in any Long-Term Car Park, a drop-off area where you can pay $10 for four hours in the Long-Term Car Park, and finally the simple Express and Drop-Off area at T2 for a maximum of 5 minutes.

Coolangatta – Things to do

Coolangatta is one of the earliest settlements on the Gold Coast as well as the southernmost suburbs of Queensland, bordering the New South Wales suburb of Tweed Heads.

It is home to world-famous surf breaks such as Snapper Rocks, which hosts the Quicksilver Pro and Roxy Pro surfing competitions each year. It is a surfing destination, and has the chilled surfer vibe all around with numerous surf shops and burger bites on the front of the beach.
It is also a beach volleyball destination for anyone who enjoys the sport as it has several nets set up on the sand. If this isn’t your scene though, you can sit down on the beach and watch the sunset over the skyline of Surfer’s Paradise.

Right next to Coolangatta Beach there is Greenmount Beach, which has a beautiful promenade bordering the ocean and linking Coolangatta Beach to Rainbow Beach. On this promenade, you can walk up to Point Danger, where you will be able to place one foot on New South Wales, and one on Queensland.

Coolangatta’s main street lounging the beaches is filled with cafes, restaurants, bars, and clubs meaning that you will not run out of food and drinks. If you are looking for action-packed adventures, there is also skydiving and snorkelling options.

Coolangatta may be small, but every inch of the suburb has something new to explore, and an adventure for everyone. It is a gorgeous destination.
